figurative language

Figurative- expressing one thing in terms normally denoting another with which it may be regarded as analogous.

Figure of Speech- used to convey meaning or heighten effect often by comparing or identifying one thing with another that has a meaning or connotation familiar to the reader or listener.

Imagery- figurative language.

Trope- the use of a word or expression in a figurative sense.

All for of these additions to speech all attempt to add interest to a story. With out any figurative language, stories and comments would be boring and not worth telling.
